The Property and Business Formalization Program for Tanzania – MKURABITA is organizing a press conference on the 2010 UN Public Service Awards program whereby Tanzania through MKURABITA emerged a second winner for Africa in the category of “Improving public service delivery”. The event will be held at the Court Yard Hotel, Dar Es Salaam on 22nd July 2010 from 11:00 hours to 14:00 hours.

Among other things, the Press Conference is organized mainly as an awareness raising and feedback process during which stakeholders of the formalization agenda will be informed about the award. The forum will also be considered as an opportunity for stakeholders to share their views towards improving public service delivery in Tanzania. This will further cultivate the innovative culture and hence encourage more institutions to take part in such award competitions.

The Permanent Secretary for the President’s Office, Public Service Management will grace the event. About fifty participants drawn from various media houses and other interested parties will attend to the conference.

Furthermore, the event serves as part of the comprehensive promotional campaigns of the implementation of MKURABITA proposed reforms and innovations.

In 2010, the United Nations Public Service Awards were given in the following three categories:
• Improving transparency, accountability, and responsiveness in the Public Service;
• Improving the delivery of public services; and
• Fostering participation in policy-making decisions through innovative mechanisms (e. g. utilizing ICT, participatory budgeting, participatory/ social auditing and monitoring, and others).
MKURABITA’s strength and entry point was on the “Management of Sustainable Delivery of Secured Property Rights Through Empowerment and Capacity Building of Local Government”.
